- 07The concept of this competition is to encourage riders in 80km (and above events) to work as a team. Many riders consistently complete rides even though they are not always in the top placings. A team of four, consisting of riders who are giving thought to completing the ride in the best time for their horse, on that day at all their rides, will probably be more prolific in obtaining ride completions than those riders who are pushing to win. This competition is aimed at encouraging those riders and enables them to have a reachable prize goal whilst fostering team spirit. Entry is free. - 09Big Three Award has to be one of the most exclusive clubs in the Equestrian world, simply due to its rarity. The Big Three is something that all riders can achieve. The WEG Games and World championships are, in all practicality, not open to all riders; most of us simply don't have the money to make the attempt. In a sport that prides itself on its motto 'To finish is to win', there have to be achievements and standards that all can equally aspire to. This is one of them. To display the horsemanship necessary, in one year within a framework of four months or thereabouts, to complete these 3 ultimate rides and still have a horse fit to continue, has to be glowing testament to the rider and horse in question. The Big Three consists of a successful completion in the NSW State Championship, the 400 km Shahzada marathon and the Tom Quilty Gold cup, our national championship.Records are made to be broken and once the bar is set at a particular height, competitors will plan on how to get over it. It isn't going to be easy but what a fantastic achievement, to realise what you and your horse have achieved together as a team! 2025 Heather Nagle and Aloha Dash Victoria Bice and Oso Dizzy Pics: Animal Focus 2024 Nadine Cooper and Arabec Skip The Blues Belinda Hollingsworth and Buckwell Park Endeavour 2019 Mitchell Ravalion and Love in the Mist Modena Schofield and Sharabel Kalarney 2017 Sarah Lymbery and Aloha Typic Sue Warren and Entourage ERA 2016 Allix Jones and Wondjina Stardust 2015 Robert Caitlin and Copperkahn Tiara John Howe and Ashbend Perazzi Carol Major and Saradon Fiona Meller and Malu Vale Embers Louise McCormack and Kintamani Silver Eclipse Kaliana Curtis and Blake's Heaven Carousel Cherry Cummins and Winter Hill Alice April Newman and Tarnette Sorsha Stuart-Rokvic and Marneross Zamal Shannon Hill and Burenndah Narla Isabel Foster and Sharabel Kalarney Gail Fisher and Arasarta Narhalinian 2014 Allix Jones and Al Marah Gypsy Red 2013 Julie Brooks and Aloha Byshara 2012 Jennifer Gilbertson and Windaroo Devina Glamour 2011 Stuart Lymbery and Garonne Park Walker Sue Warren and Warren Park OB One Sonya Ruprecht and Yahweh-Salih Sir Ibn Gelibone Dean Walkom and Santa Pasa Zaraq Cheryl Strachan and Kintamani Sapphire Julie Brooks and Aloha Byshara 2010 Karina Bodewes and Booramby Silver Elk Martin Gregson and Burrnendah Gladiator Allix Jones and Shellal Cattle King Flyte Carol Layton and Omani Mr Squiggle Marionne Lengronne and Sasam Noni Seagrim and Rahan Mushtar Sue Todd and Shakista 2009 Carol Major and Major Luke Rowena Robinson and Karumba Nazrani 2008 Allix Jones and Cattle King Flyte Jan Wade and Hajira Leonie 2006 Jan Wade and Oakey Dokey 2003 Stuart Hitchcock and Flashlite 2000 Desiree Jones and Dammah 1998 Shelly Ison and Miss Ellie 1997 Shan Symonds and Dashandra Sonaria 1996 Pauline Brewer and Leets Valley Sonny Louise McCormack and Grey Rose 1994 Laura Cheney and Coolaroo Cassandra Helen Lindsay and Kintamani Fosta Sonia Bonham and Santarabia Mazra 1991 John Howe and Beau Gallant Omen

- 20The conservation movement, supported by extremists within the National Parks & Wildlife Service (NPWS), tried to get horse riding banned from all National Parks in NSW in the 1980s and 1990s. The Australian Horse Alliance (AHA) was formed to lobby politicians and bureaucrats and counteract the influence of the extreme greens, with Fiona Meller representing endurance riders on the AHA committee, and taking on the Track Preservation portfolio within NSWERA. Fast forward 30 years and the situation is very different. Horse riders generally, and endurance riders in particular, enjoy a cordial relationship with NPWS. Horse riding is recognised as a legitimate way to enjoy national parks, and application procedures for running events in National Parks have been simplified. The responsibilities of the Track Preservation Porfolio are now: • writing submissions on behalf of horse riders in relation to new Plans of Management for national parks around the state • advising and supporting ride committees which need to liaise with their local National Parks office • assisting individual riders with questions or issues relating to local trails or parks Which parks you can ride in, and which trails you can use within those parks, are governed by the individual Plans of Management for each park. You can look these up online at Park plans of management and statements of management intent | NSW Environment and Heritage(https://www.environment.nsw.gov.au/Topics/Parks-reserves-and-protected-areas/Park-management/Park-plans-of-management-and-statements-of-management-intent) Running an endurance ride on trails within a National Park has recently become easier with the simplified procedures for small scale events of less than 150 participants, and low impact events of 150-400 participants. More information is available at Events in NSW national parks | NSW Environment and Heritage(https://www.environment.nsw.gov.au/topics/parks-reserves-and-protected-areas/commercial-activities-in-parks/events-in-nsw-national-parks) All riders in parks, whether participating in an endurance ride or riding as an individual, are expected to abide by both the general and horse-specific rules relating to National Parks, including • No smoking • No littering • Stay on formed trails • Only take weed-free horse feed into parks • Respect temporary trail closures due to extreme weather, maintenance activities or track conditions The NPWS Horse Riding Policy and Horse Riding Code of Conduct is available at Horse riding policy | NSW Environment and Heritage(https://www.environment.nsw.gov.au/topics/parks-reserves-and-protected-areas/park-policies/horse-riding) For more information, contact Fiona at NSWERA.FionaMeller@gmail.com (NSWERA.FionaMeller@gmail.com) https://static.wixstatic.com/media/9ea195_c7ebb28bc41a47db8a40e63d1e0b8fac~mv2.jpg
