South Coast Zone Endurance Ride information 5th & 6th of August 2023 Currowan Endurance Ride at Nelligen Saturday 40km, 20km & 10km rides Sunday 100km, 80km, 40km & 20km rides
The ride base: We have a fantastic ride base 40metres off the Kings Highway, turn onto the River Road (Shallow Crossing Rd) at the outskirts of Nelligen. There is a large flat paddock a farmer has kindly given us permission to use. Very easy to get to. Nelligen is 2 ¼ hours from Yass, 1 ½ hours from Canberra and Goulburn, towards the South Coast off the main road from Canberra to Bateman's Bay. Great food onsite.
Only one kilometre away there's a good pub with meals, across the road is a holiday park. Also at Nelligen is a great cafe overlooking the lovely Clyde River and a park with childrens playground. The holiday park is four star with showers or for camping, cabins and villas (with spa's) on the banks of the Clyde River.
The rides: Saturday 10km, 20km & 40km rides / Sunday 20km, 40km & 80km rides All the legs are good under foot. With a variety of surfaces, fantastic views, farmland, rainforest ect. The 40km leg follows the river for a while then turns up some less used dirt roads through lovely bush and some rainforest. Still clean good tracks. Again clean fresh water creeks with easy access. There is approximately 5km then a gentle ride back down to the river. No tar road apart from a very short distance entering a couple of the creek crossings.
The 40km ride (second leg 80km) winds along the banks of the beautiful Clyde River. Riding along The River Rd all the way to Shallow Crossing and then back. This has slight undulation less than 50mtr above sea level. Tracks are dirt road, with fresh water creeks with easy access.
The 20km social ride will follow the Clyde River before turning up a bush track looping around and back onto the road further along the Clyde River.
The 10km ride follows The River Rd for half a km before turning up quiet bush tracks where you'll meet no other horses or vehicles. Approximately 6km onto your ride you follow the Clyde River along The River Rd back to base. Day membership available 10km, 20km & 40km rides Please come and enjoy a great weekend.
